Collaboration with Italy/South Tyrol – FWF

Description

The programme supports bilateral, cross-border research collaborations between Austria and South Tyrol (Italy), implemented by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) in cooperation with the Provincial Administration of South Tyrol. It aims to fund closely integrated joint research projects where both sides contribute substantially and where the project cannot be divided into independent national parts.

Funding Amount

  • Per project:
    • Funding is project-specific, based on FWF programme rules
  • Funding model:
    • Each side funds its own national project component
    • South Tyrolean funding decided independently by the provincial authority
  • Duration:
    • Up to 36 months (3 years)

Submission Deadlines

  • No fixed deadline, rolling submissions

Submission Conditions

  • Applications must be submitted via the FWF elane electronic portal
  • Additional submission requirements:
    • Must follow:
      • Principal Investigator Projects guidelines, or
      • Clinical Research programme guidelines
    • Must include:
      • Standard FWF application documents (project description, CV, budget, etc.)
      • Additional “Financial Plan” form for the South Tyrolean project part
  • Procedure:
    • Lead Agency Procedure (LAP) with FWF as lead
    • FWF conducts international peer review
    • South Tyrol generally adopts FWF decision and funds its part
  • Evaluation:
    • Same process as:
      • FWF Principal Investigator Projects, or
      • Clinical Research programme
